Inspiration

Sahayak AI was inspired by the daily challenges faced by blind and visually impaired people when understanding their surroundings and navigating unfamiliar places. I wanted to explore how AI voice assistants like Alexa could be adapted to support accessibility and independence.

What It Does

Sahayak AI is an AI-powered Android application designed to describe surroundings, identify visible obstacles, provide spoken warnings, and offer route guidance through supported navigation services. Users can ask questions using their voice and receive spoken responses.

How We Built It

The planned technology includes Google AI Studio, Gemini AI, Android, camera-based image analysis, speech recognition, text-to-speech, GPS, and mapping services.

Challenges We Faced

The main challenges include accurate obstacle identification, reliable voice interaction, real-time navigation, API integration, and user safety. AI may make mistakes, so the application must communicate uncertainty and complement existing mobility aids.

What's Next

Future improvements include Telugu and other regional languages, offline assistance, improved obstacle-distance estimation, and testing with visually impaired users to improve usability and reliability. Inspiration
