Inspiration
Even in the era of Information Technology and high usage of smartphones, people are unable to get immediate assistance or aid in emergency situations. Waiting for first responders in such situations can result in various adversities, even fatality. Therefore, it becomes highly important to provide immediate help when emergency services can’t reach the victim in appropriate time. Most of the time elderly people are unable to provide accurate information and utilize the emergency phone calls, users find themselves in an unknown location that can’t be described or provide an accurate address when an emergency occurs, casualties are caused by the late arrival of the emergency services.
Delay in providing assistance by emergency services due to traffic. Shortage of workforce to provide emergency assistance About 30% of deaths are caused due to delayed medical services. In today's scenario the number of accidents per day is increasing exponentially and so is the number of deaths caused by it. This requires instant action which can save thousands of lives. These problems can be easily solved with the use of our platform.
What it does
Now the above stated problems can be easily solved using Sahayak platform Our platform enables users to volunteer and help nearby users in need of any emergency assistance or aid. Through the website, users can send SOS request to other users in the specified radius. Once the SOS request is sent, the nearby users (within the specified radius) receive the request and they have the choice to either accept the request or reject it depending their personal situation. Through this mechanism, the requester can get immediate assistance through nearby volunteers. Through the google maps api provided on the platform the volunteer will be able to get the address of the requester. Even the requester will be able to view his/her location on the google maps before sending the request. After accepting the request, the receiver can promptly provide assistance to the victim in appropriate time
This makes the assistance in emergency situations quicker and more assuring to the victim SOS request can be made without the knowledge of location and the platform itself locates the victim and sends the location along with other personal details to nearby user Now the victim does not have to wait for the first responders whether they are in crisis on a highway or at home.
How we built it
Frameworks/Tools/Technologies stacks used : Frontend
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- jQuery
- Bootstrap v4.5
Backend
- Node
- Express
Database
- MongoDB
Challenges we ran into
- There were minor challenges such as using geocoding api from google maps cloud console for the very first time.
- Sending acknowledgement of SOS request approval to the victim
- And also improving our website by looking into details.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We have successfully implemented our idea, though few features are yet to be implemented.
- We have successfully integrated the website to cloud database
- We have also deployed the website at Sahayak
What we learned
- We have learnt so much from this project and one of those learnings was determination. Determination to finish what we started and make use of this opportunity.
- In addition, we integrated the clouded database and deployed the website
What's next for Sahayak
- We have yet to add notifications, efficient review system, incentives for the volunteers and most importantly more user friendly UI/UX
