Inspiration
Emergencies can be stressful, and people need a clear way to report incidents and access relevant emergency information. I wanted to explore how a digital platform could make emergency reporting and coordination easier through a unified interface.
What it does
SAHAY is a web-based emergency response prototype that brings incident reporting and response coordination into one platform. It includes a citizen-facing SOS experience, incident tracking, map-based visualization, and separate dashboards for responders, hospitals, authorities, and administrators.
The goal is to make emergency information easier to view and manage through a shared interface.
How I built it
I built SAHAY using React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and React-Leaflet for the frontend, with Python and FastAPI for the backend. I also worked on dashboard layouts, incident views, and map-based interfaces to create a consistent user experience across different roles.
Challenges I faced
One of the main challenges was maintaining a consistent interface across multiple dashboards while working through frontend styling and backend integration. I also learned how important it is to clearly separate the needs of different user roles in a system designed for time-sensitive situations.
What I learned
Building SAHAY helped me improve my understanding of frontend development, API integration, dashboard design, and map-based interfaces. It also encouraged me to think about usability, coordination, and reliability when designing software for emergency scenarios.
What's next
Future improvements could include validated AI-assisted incident classification, real-time notifications, stronger location handling, and more robust coordination workflows. These features would need further development and testing before real-world use.
Note: SAHAY is currently a prototype and is not connected to official emergency dispatch services. It should not replace calling local emergency services.
