Inspiration
Through volunteer work as well as spending time with our own grandparents , we have seen the need for a project like this first hand.
What it does
Connects elderly users with community volunteers willing to help them with certain tasks like cleaning and transportation as well as offering companionship.
How we built it
For the backend used constructed a database using Flask, MySQL and SQLAlchemy and wrote a python algorithm for user matching. For the font end we use flask and html to create navigable website and Figma to outline our UI/UX design.
Challenges we ran into
Translating our Figma designs into html and css.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our projects potential for social good. On the technical side we are proud of our UX/UI design.
What we learned
How to use Flask and mySQL.
What's next for SageLink
After the hackathon, we hope to test our UX design with seniors. Their feedback will improve usability, accessibility, and engagement. We understand that UX design is an iterative process, so we will continue to alter our design based on user needs. Had we had more time, we would have created a platform for communication and coordination between seniors and volunteers. We would also try to integrate the Google Calendar and Google Maps API to match users according to their schedules and locations.
