Inspiration

While brainstorming ideas for this project, I thought about the games that had me hooked—the ones that always made me say, “Just one more game.” That feeling became the core inspiration for Sage Wall Stacker: an easy-to-learn, classic stacker-style game designed to keep players coming back as they compete for the high score.

What it does

The goal of this mini-game is to stack Sage's wall. With each time a wall is placed, the next round is slightly faster. Eventually, players will have to put their reflexes to the test to see if they can place the wall at a difficult speed.

How we built it

This project was built with JetBrains IDE and Junie AI.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge I ran into was using a new IDE, JetBrains. I had no prior knowledge on how to use this IDE or Junie AI. However, once I got started, it was easy to pick up and understand. If I ran into any issues or had questions, Junie AI was useful and extremely helpful. I was able to avoid spending hours on a small bug and hours of frustration with the help of Junie. Not only was I able to ask Junie for help, but I was able to understand how Junie was able to fix my problems via the chat. This way, I was able to ask questions and learn from the solutions.

Another challenge I ran into was finding artwork that would fit my vision. One of my main goals was to display Cloud9's Esports theme. I wanted a game that fans at LCS and VCT events can actually relate to. In order to do this, I learned how to do pixel art to create my own image assets. It was a long and slow process, but definitely worth it in the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the project's "high replayability." I put myself in the shoes of a fan at a VCT event and brought my ideas of an engaging game to life.

What we learned

I learned how amazing JetBrains IDE and Junie AI is. I am very grateful of this opportunity brought by Cloud9 to experience such stress-free coding. Without this hackathon, I would have never thought to implement new resources to my coding projects.

What's next for Sage Wall Stacker

The next step for Sage Wall Stacker is to be played by fans visiting future Cloud9 and JetBrains Event booths!
