Inspiration
As high school juniors and seniors who exhibit the struggle of balancing college applications and schoolwork, we were inspired to create this community webpage for students to reach out and seek advice from those who know the journey best.
What it does
Preparedness Schedule: Keep track of application/scholarship deadlines. You can add events and reference a calendar. College Entry Blog: Students can post advice and pose questions to other students. Brainstorming Achievement Compilation (BAC): Help students prepare answers for college/scholarship essays by posing straightforward and thought-provoking questions. We provide a space for students to type out their thoughts and focus on their main points. Speak with Counselors who will guide students on the right path. Students may talk to counselors or a bot. We have added a bot that answers generic questions.
How we built it
We created the webpage with ReactJS.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges with Gatsby, specifically with deploying to netlify and adding extra features to the blog. Also, given that three out of four members were first-time hackers, adjusting to the atmosphere and process was another obstacle to tackle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to create a semi-finished product! We were able to remember how to code and familiarize ourselves with the complex ReactJS.
What we learned
We learned that it is important to utilize everyone's strengths and open source code.
What's next for SAGE College Preparedness Aid
We hope to finish the product to make all parts functional, we can add more features that we had in mind. Lastly, spreading the word to other students and encouraging everyone to show their best self to colleges!
