Inspiration
This app was inspired by the sexual assault cases that are topping headlines such as the Harvey Weinstein rape accusations.
What it does
This app allows victims of all kinds of harassment, abuse, and assault to report crimes to the authorities without the offender or the person committing the crime knowing. We use gadgets, such as jewelry, pins, and wrist watches to connect via Bluetooth to an app. It will alert the nearest police precincts, and give a safe location in which the victims can confide in if they want to receive help. If someone is being held hostage or is in an uncomfortable situation in which they cannot call 911, they can use the "SafeWear" to record audio, alert authorities, or to connect to the app. When connecting to the app from the wearable, it locates the nearest shelters and other safe havens for you to stay.
How I built it
Using NeoCities, we created a website using HTML and CSS.
Challenges I ran into
Discovering the issues that SafeWear might run into and creating an effective solution for the problem was a critical challenge in creating this application.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Our team worked collaboratively to create an app, website and gadgets. We took advantage of our different strengths to create our final projects.
What I learned
When you're working in a team, you need to collaborate with others of different capabilities and strengths.
What's next for SafeWear
Hopefully, SafeWear's usage rate will expand and will be a world-known company.
