Inspiration

After hearing stories from my female friends that they often run the risk of having their drinks spiked with no quick way to inform anyone, it inspired our team to build a solution to allow them full autonomy while ensuring their safety.

What it does

It is an application that allows users to select trusted friends or loved ones to send an emergency alert to when the situation arises. The user can also choose to directly alert the authorities if the situation is severe enough or there are no trusted friends or loved ones near enough to render quick assistance.

How we built it

We used Figma to prototype our solution before implementing it using Expo and React Native.

Challenges we ran into

Many of our teammates were new to Expo and React Native. This create an extremely steep learning curve for us to implement an application in the short span of a day.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to create a functioning prototype within the span of a day using a framework that was foreign to us is something that we are extremely proud of. We are also very proud of how effectively we manage to communicate within the team to achieve the end goal.

What we learned

We learnt that the struggle of ladies are very different. Often, the best way to help is to listen even before formulating a solution that is tailored towards females.

What's next for SafeWay

  • We want to further validate this solution to better understand the stakeholders and address their pain points.
  • We also want to make the features of application richer without over complicating the process, which might potential be counter intuitive for our end users.
