Inspiration
We empathize with people who are at high risk and understand that it is crucial for them to stay cautious during the pandemic. With the difficulties of COVID fatigue, we wanted to provide an alternative to balance COVID safety with normalcy.
What it does
This web application would enable a user to search their destination and would inform them of the safest time to go there along with the current COVID-19 Guidelines set in place.
How we built it
The prototype and demo is displayed using Figma and represents our vision we had going into the project. We attempted to build a React web application, but considering many of us were new to React, it was a difficult task to complete. We managed to build out the home page, but we weren't able to parse the form data in time.
Challenges we ran into
All of us wanted to learn React or something new so learning a new language in a short period of time was one of the biggest challenges. Although not completed, we had a strong foundation and given more time, we would have completed this project in its entirety.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning this amount of information in a short amount of time; although implementation was not up to our expectations, we are still proud of how much we built given the short time frame.
What we learned
- Learned the basics of a React project including hooks, classes and states.
- Learned how to implement a Google API in a react project.
- Learned how to use React Router
- Learned How to use React with Bootstrap
- Developed a prototype with Figma that is inline with our vision and shows some features we wanted to implement.
What's next for SafeWay
We are going to try to finish the React Website to have the functionality that we hoped for and disregarding the aesthetic for now.
