Inspiration

When we were coming up with ideas for the hackathon, we realized we wanted to do something that could benefit everyone in these trying times. One thing Covid has made difficult for everyone is meeting up with friends in a safe way. Knowing this, we decided to make something that would limit the amount of people attending, to ensure that people can still meet up now in safe conditions.

What it does

Around your area, you can see meetings that people have posted. These meetings will be limited at 10 people at a time and anyone can join!

How I built it

We used React, Express, Firebase and Google Maps API to build out our app. Our express backend contained 10 endpoints.

Challenges I ran into

Frontend has always been a challenge of mine, and today wasn't any different for us.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Completing this app with my team! I am very happy with how it turned out. I was surprised, especially since my past hackathons have not been as successful.

What's next for SafeWave

We discussed in our video a few steps that we wanted to take. A few more features we want to implement include chat systems between users (Socket.io), COVID alerts for breakouts near the area you want to host your party, and other features if anyone has suggestions!

Note:

My other teammates Ryan Tso, and Clire Chen do not have DevPost. However, we all worked equally hard on the app so it would be great for all of us to be equally acknowledged! Thank you all very much for the fun hackathon.
