Safe Harbor – A Safer Voice for Every Workplace
Inspiration
Many employees face harassment, discrimination, and unfair treatment at work but stay silent because they fear retaliation, judgment, or losing their jobs. We wanted to create a platform where anyone could report incidents safely, privately, and confidently. Safe Harbor was inspired by the need to make workplaces more respectful, transparent, and supportive.
What It Does
Safe Harbor is a confidential workplace reporting platform that allows users to:
- Report workplace incidents anonymously or with identity disclosure choice
- Track complaint progress step-by-step
- Access legal rights and workplace policy guidance
- Use AI-assisted support for incident triage and recommendations
- Escalate unresolved complaints automatically
- Use the platform on mobile as a web app
How We Built It
We built Safe Harbor using modern web technologies:
- Frontend: React + TypeScript
- UI Design: Responsive modern interface for desktop and mobile
- Backend: Supabase for authentication and database
- Hosting: Lovable platform deployment
- App Experience: Progressive Web App (PWA) support for mobile install
- AI Features: Smart reporting assistance and guidance tools
Challenges We Faced
One of our biggest challenges was converting the web platform into a mobile app experience while keeping the same UI and functionality. We also faced deployment issues, build errors, and app packaging problems. Another challenge was designing a system that balances anonymity, trust, and usability.
What We Learned
Through this project, we learned:
- How to deploy full-stack apps quickly
- How Progressive Web Apps can simulate native apps
- Real-world debugging of build and deployment issues
- Importance of secure and anonymous reporting systems
- How technology can solve meaningful social problems
What's Next
We plan to improve Safe Harbor with:
- Native Android/iOS app versions
- Real-time notifications
- HR/Admin dashboards
- Multilingual support
- AI sentiment analysis for reports
- Stronger security and role-based access
Final Thoughts
Safe Harbor is more than a project—it is a step toward safer workplaces where every voice matters.
