Inspiration

Adventure can be fun! It’s always good to try new things, take risks, and explore around! However, we also have to raise our awareness and make sure to keep ourselves safe while having fun. We were inspired to create this design because, as women, we know how it feels to feel unsafe at times when you’re out in public. One of the main reasons we created this is so that women, or anyone in general can feel safe while traveling and track their locations at all times.

What it does

This app has 3 main components. Our first component is the drink calculator which calculates a user’s estimated BAC and informs you whether it’s safe to drink or drive. Our second component is the alerts system. This displays all the current crimes happening near your location, and how far you’re located from the crime. The third component is that it tracks the locations of all the places you’ve visited. We can see this in your home screen: it displays your stats (your recently visited places, total steps traveled, most visited places, etc). The map displays various data, such as covid cases. It also filters through all the adventures you can experience in your desired location!

How we built it

We created several wireframes through Figma starting with the basic idea of the application such as including a page to track alcohol consumption, local criminal activity, and a map which allows the user to display various data. We then expanded on the wireframes by including interactive animations and a home page to make the app more user friendly.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was incorporating the idea of having fun adventures while staying safe simultaneously. We wanted to create an all-in-one app that encourages adventure while providing ways for the user to make healthy, safe, and informed choices. Another challenge we faced was learning how to use Figma to create interactive wireframes as it was the first time most of our team used Figma.

What we learned

While designing Safeventure, we were able to understand the different ways adventure can be interrupted and used this knowledge to create a useful and life-saving application. We gathered vital information on the correlation between alcohol levels and drinks, criminal activity, and the effects of COVID-19. We then used this information to alert and map out the area where the user can venture safely.

What's next for Safeventure

We believe that our application is easily buildable and scalable. Therefore, in the future we hope to implement the google maps API for more accurate location data and an “alert my friends” to further ensure the safety of our users.
