Inspiration
Recently this year our friend Jess was diagnosed with functional neurological disorder. This condition means that at short notice she suffers from seizures that leave her temporarily paralyzed. Since this condition, Jess has been experiencing multiple per day and can not safely go out and about without a friend to act as a carer.
What it does
This app is designed to solve this problem by providing users with a way to rapidly check in with friends and family. A text message is sent to the user every half hour (configurable time coming soon) and if no response is received within a minute or so, text messages are sent to the user's emergency contacts.
This app has been designed to be as versatile as possible. Although it was initially designed to provide a SafetyNet for people with disabilities. The app works just as well for lone workers and even people who want some extra safety going on dates.
How we built it
When the user creates an account online, a request is sent to a firebase function. This creates the user within the database which is polled every minute to check when a new request needs to be sent out.
