Have you ever been in an unsafe situation where you needed someone to bail you out? There's nothing scarier than being alone when you find yourself getting followed by a stranger, being in a party that turned unsafe, or having someone flirt with you in a pushy and uncomfortable way. However, statistically, a simple phone call from a boyfriend or parent can turn that around: if your boyfriend says he's picking you up in 2 minutes, the stalker will most likely leave; if your dad yells at you to get out of the party, you have a perfect excuse to leave safely; if a pushy stranger doesn't believe you have a boyfriend, your boyfriend interrupting with a call is the unshakeable proof.
But not all of us are always so lucky. You might not have an actual boyfriend, or your parents may not pick up when it's so late at night. That's where Safety Dial can save the day: Specify your situation, and we will have an AI voice will act as your "boyfriend" or "parent" and hold a pretend conversation with you in real-time, giving everyone around you the illusion that your boyfriend is about to pick you up, or your strict dad is forcing you to leave the party. The AI will respond to you naturally and continue playing its part until you are safely out of the situation.
The UI/UX is extremely simple and minimalistic, so you can access your needs as quickly as possible in urgent situations. It allows you to pretend that you got a call out of nowhere. The call screen resembles an iPhone call screen, and audio is filtered to sound like a voice coming from a phone, making a realistic impression on those around you.
This was my first time working with React and Next.js, as well as the audio component of an AI API. This was also my first solo hackathon project.
