🚍 Inspiration
Public transportation depends on hundreds of drivers, conductors, vehicles, and daily operations. We realized that managing duty schedules, driver working hours, rest periods, overtime, and emergencies through disconnected or manual systems can create operational challenges. This inspired us to build SafeTransit — a centralized digital platform for smarter and safer public transportation management.
💡 What We Built
SafeTransit is an intelligent public transport safety and operations management platform. It brings essential transport operations into one ecosystem.
Key features include:
- Driver & Conductor Management: Centralized workforce management.
- Smart Duty Tracking: Monitor driver duty start and end times.
- Rest Eligibility Monitoring: Track mandatory rest periods.
- Overtime Management: Digital overtime requests and approval workflows.
- Smart Duty Assignment: Simplify duty allocation and leave replacement.
- Vehicle Health Monitoring: Manage vehicle-related information.
- Emergency Command Center: Centralized emergency operations.
- Digital Handover & Audit Logs: Maintain operational transparency and accountability.
🛠️ How We Built It
We developed SafeTransit using React.js and Vite for the frontend, Node.js and Express.js for backend APIs, and PostgreSQL for database management. Prisma ORM handles database interactions, while Docker provides containerized development and deployment.
We also implemented JWT-based authentication and role-oriented operational workflows.
📚 What We Learned
Building SafeTransit helped us understand full-stack development, REST API integration, database design, authentication, Docker-based deployment, and the importance of designing systems around real-world operational requirements.
🚧 Challenges We Faced
Some major challenges included connecting frontend and backend modules, designing reliable duty-management workflows, handling database relationships, implementing rest eligibility and overtime approval logic, and managing deployment configurations.
