Late one evening, one of our teammates was walking home from college. Her map app led her through a dimly lit alleyway. It was the shortest route — but not the safest. That moment sparked a deeper conversation in our group. We realized that while apps could tell us how to get somewhere quickly, none of them told us how to get there safely.

That’s how SafeStride was born — from a real problem faced by real people. The Idea Takes Shape We imagined a tool that could act like a digital guardian — guiding users away from dangerous zones using real-time crime data, without needing any installs or complex setup. Just open the web app, enter your destination, and SafeStride recommends the safest route, even if it’s not the fastest one. We wanted this tool to be: Web-based and accessible anywhere Respectful of user privacy Smart enough to evaluate crime density, not just distance
