Our project is SafeStreet. It's an app designed to help people stay safe on the streets. Many of us have been afraid of our safety alone on the streets and we also know people who have faced this fear in the past. To counter this SafeStreet proposes a new solution, SafeSpots. SafeSpots are verified safe locations that you can turn to in an unsafe situation. It allows one to find immediate safety and comfort when they need it. Additionally you can request a security officer to help escort you when you are in a unstable and unsafe situation. With tip widgets and quick emergency contact options SafeStreet provides several different ways to feel safety and comfort. We designed Safespot on Code.org. We started by drafting the pages on a document so we had a plan. This plan included descriptions for each page with their purpose. This plan made it easy to design each page, code them, and link them together. A predicament we ran into was choosing an app name. We wanted our app name to get through with our purpose to potential users while still being memorable and unique. To overcome this we combined some of our initial ideas into something more catchy and defined. We are very proud of the app overall as we spent several meetings planning before hackathon. As none of us initially knew each other and we were unsure how it would turn out. We learned how to work together with each other's working styles and personalities. Because of this our initial idea developed into a simple easy-to-use app that prioritizes the user safety. Our next step would be making the app more personalized with a real mapping system. That way the app can be truly usable and functionable.
