Inspiration: Our team was inspired to create SafeSpace by the urgent need for improved safety in South African communities. We recognized that while technology has transformed many aspects of daily life, personal safety tools remained largely unchanged. The vision of empowering individuals with real-time, data-driven safety information drove us to develop this innovative solution. Project Overview: SafeSpace is a mobile application that uses advanced mapping technology and data analysis to provide users with real-time safety assessments and route planning. Our goal is to contribute to safer communities by giving people the information they need to make informed decisions about their personal safety. Key Features:

Challenges: Developing SafeSpace came with its share of challenges:
Data accuracy: Ensuring our safety assessments are reliable and up-to-date. User privacy: Balancing the need for location data with strong privacy protections. Technical integration: Seamlessly combining multiple data sources with our mapping system. Community engagement: Encouraging user participation without promoting fear or paranoia. Scalability: Designing a system that can grow to serve larger areas and populations.
Despite these challenges, we believe SafeSpace has the potential to make a significant positive impact on community safety and contribute to the goals of SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
