Inspiration

We were inspired to make SafeSpace because suicide is the second leading cause of teen death in America. We wanted to give tips and resources for people to get better and cope.

What it does

SafeSpace is designed to help people who struggle with things like anxiety, depression, self-injury and suicidal thoughts. Amelia and I composed a list (from professionals) of things to help with each different topic. There are hotline numbers in the “Talk To Someone” tab for those people that need help.

How we built it

We used MIT App Inventor for the coding and Adobe Photoshop for the graphics.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest problems we had was in regard to the GUI. At first it looked a bit elementary but we got it to look sleek and new.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we could get awareness to these kinds of things. More people need to know how serious it is. Even if we help one person, it would be one life we could have saved.

What we learned

We learned how hard it is to develop an app and make it look good while providing the information we needed to.

What's next for SafeSpace

Regardless of how the competition goes, we would like to get SafeSpace on the market and help as many people as we possibly can. That’s what we were working toward from the beginning.
