Inspiration: With the prevalence of online harassment and the creation of safe spaces across university campuses, we wanted to make the internet a safe space.

What It does: SafeSpace filters out terms related to racism, misogyny, and other overly offensive terms that are genuinely offensive to many.

What We Used: Using Google Chrome, we created a script to crawl web pages a user is on to search for and filter specific terms.

Challenges: We wanted to create a filter for users to customize their own list, but I had trouble doing this

as chrome extensions can not use server-side languages.

Achievements: We created a functioning extension that filters out words that may be genuinely offensive to many people.

What's next for SafeSpace:

We're going to add functionality for users to enter their own words.
