SafeRoute: Real-Time Women’s Safety Map

SafeRoute is a web application that helps women and vulnerable individuals navigate safer paths through cities. It allows users to mark areas as safe or unsafe, see a visual map of feedback, and trigger emergency alerts when needed.

Inspiration:
In many cities, women face safety challenges while walking alone. There are few tools to identify dangerous areas in real time. SafeRoute empowers users to share and access this critical information.

What it does:

  • Mark areas as "Safe" ✅ or "Unsafe" ❌
  • View all community feedback on a live map
  • Emergency alert button
  • Lightweight and easy to use

Built with:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, LeafletJS

Challenges we ran into:
Designing an interface that is simple but powerful. We also had to work without a backend, so we used LocalStorage as a temporary solution.

Accomplishments we're proud of:
The project is usable right away and solves a real problem. It is easy to expand with more features later.

What's next:

  • Add login/authentication
  • Connect to a backend database
  • Create a mobile app version
  • Build a safety score based on AI
