Inspiration

Our inspiration for this problem was seeing young children being put in danger because of the decision of their parent/guardian of putting them in an unsafe school.

What it does

Our project gives us crime rate data of the neighborhood of the chosen elementary school (chosen by the user based on a given list).

How we built it

Our project features include using JLabels to display our data and using user input to display certain data based on their choice. It also consists of images that correspond with the chosen school.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered a couple of problems such as at first being able to create a website/application with either Python or Java. This took us a couple of hours to figure out, but we eventually realized that we needed to approach the task in a different way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to complete all of our project earlier than the time limit, and for figuring out some new Java features.

What we learned

We learned that it is possible to include an image in a Java window without having to make it the background.

What's next for Safer Neighborhood

We learned how to program a Java program that allowed us to display an image as is without making it the background. We also learned what each layout looks like/does, such as BoxLayout, FlowLayout, GridLayout, etc… Lastly, we learned that we can easily code a Java JFrame with simple features in only a couple of minutes without any complications.
