Inspiration
A visit to the theme park can be a magical experience for little children and an overwhelming one for parents. Constant worrying and monitoring their children's whereabouts and integrity often prevents parents from enjoying the fun activities in the park. It is a terrible feeling to realize that your children have been out of your sight for an extended time and that they could be anywhere mixed in with the large crowded areas. For commercialized parks such as Disney World, an average of 11 children go missing each day. The average time they spend missing from their family is around 30 minutes. Losing a child can cause shock and panicking reactions in parents. Acting quickly can be fundamental in preventing accidents and child abductions. Currently, parents lack affordable technology that can allow them to quickly locate their children and have access to security measurements in case of serious mishap.
What it does
SafePeek is a platform that offers an interface between wearable tracking technology and a geolocation application to be implemented in already existing amusement park apps. SafePeek is a faster and more efficient way to locate a child in a packed theme park. It focuses on ease-of-use and affordability, and creating a sustainable product that enhances customer confidence when visiting a park with family. Before entering a park or when arriving at the entrance, the parent will register the wristband and create the corresponding child's profile. When creating the profile, they may include more descriptive features such as hair, eye, and skin color. This is so that in the event a child goes missing for a long period of time, the park can easily send out a "Missing Child" alert to other visitors in the park. On the day of the park visit, they will receive a notification reminding them to fill out their child’s details and upload a current photo in case they get lost. Once linked to the SafePeek app, the wristband instantly provides the location of the child who has been registered by their parents.
Safety Features: The app will automatically notify the parent if the location signal is lost and lock on the last location received. In the worst case scenario, the location isn’t popping up, the parent will click on the emergency button to call security and work with them on sending out the “Missing Child” alert. The wristband is child-proof, meaning that it includes a locking mechanism that only the parent may unlock through the app. In the event that the child tries to take of the wristband or if the child tries to leave the park premises, the wristband will emit a blaring alarm sound and flash red LED lights as well as notify the parents.
Challenges we ran into
We need to find s partnership to integrate our service and produce a more successful product. Next, we also might face the situation of some parks stating that they already have adequate safety procedures. We will do our best to promote our product and state that not only will it enhance what they already have but it will also provide an additional sense of comfort for parents in the amusement park. We might also run into the challenge that some families will think it is unnecessary and feel uncomfortable in tracking their children. Some families may also be facing financial crisis and would not be able to afford to buy our product. Thus, we will try to promote the benefits of our service among parents to assure them and try our best to adjust the price to suit all families. Lastly, we would like to explore more sustainable or recyclable materials to build our product to help parks reduce paper wristband waste.
What's next for SafePeek
In the future, SafePeek will explore more manufacturability options for reliability, low cost, & environmentally sustainable materials. SafePeek will troubleshoot user interfaces for ease of use. We will also have a modular design for easy integration into other platforms. Additionally, we would like to incorporate lost parent stations in case phones die or wristbands malfunction. Last but not least, SafePeek will study the demand and cost studies to offer availability for day renting at park entrances to continue achieving environmental sustainability.
