Inspiration As people age, cognitive decline and mobility issues can make independent living challenging. Many elderly individuals struggle with recognizing faces and staying within safe zones. Loved ones often worry about the elderly wandering off or interacting with strangers. SafePath was created to ensure the safety and well-being of elderly individuals while giving peace of mind to their caretakers.

What it does SafePath is an intelligent monitoring and assistance system for elderly individuals with declining conditions. It offers:

Geofencing Alerts: Notifies caretakers when the patient crosses predefined safety boundaries.

Facial Recognition: Helps the elderly distinguish between known individuals and strangers.

Caretaker Connectivity: Allows real-time updates and alerts for caretakers to monitor their loved ones' well-being.

Challenges we ran into Implementing real-time geofencing and ensuring accuracy.

Optimizing facial recognition for different lighting conditions.

Integrating Google Gemini API with a natural and useful chatbot experience.

Balancing privacy and security while storing user data.

What we learned The importance of optimizing AI models for real-world use cases.

How to integrate multiple APIs and services effectively.

The challenges of designing for accessibility and ease of use for elderly users.

What's next for SafePath We would like to fix all the little bugs and make it an extensive app capable of supporting the elderly and the caretaker. We also want to explore the option of integrating the location services with a wearable device and adding health monitoring such as vitals tracking.
