Inspiration

SafeNest was inspired by the unique challenges teenage girls face when it comes to accessing reliable resources for healthcare, safety, and personal growth. Observing a gap in easily accessible, supportive platforms that address these needs holistically, I set out to build a solution that could provide information, assistance, and empowerment all in one place.

What it does

SafeNest is a comprehensive platform that empowers teenage girls by offering:

  1. Instant AI-Driven Support: A conversational assistant for immediate guidance.
  2. Crisis Control: Step-by-step help in emergencies to manage difficult situations.
  3. Emotional Tracking and Support: An AI model that assesses the user’s emotional state and suggests helpful articles.
  4. Growth Recommendations: Guidance on personal development, offering tasks to encourage positive growth.
  5. Emergency Button: A feature that allows users to alert trusted contacts and share their location in urgent situations.

How we built it

SafeNest was developed with a front-end built on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to ensure a user-friendly experience. We incorporated four AI models to enhance functionality, each serving a unique purpose. For user data and functionality, we are integrating a backend structure to handle user data securely. We also carefully designed the UI with a welcoming color palette to create a safe and friendly space for users.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the biggest challenges included:

  • Building and Integrating AI Models: Designing models that provide relevant support in various scenarios was both complex and time-consuming.
  • Backend Development: As I’m still learning backend technologies, building a secure and effective data handling system required additional research and effort.
  • Ensuring Data Privacy: Since SafeNest deals with sensitive information, safeguarding data and maintaining user privacy was a key focus.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have created a platform that has the potential to make a positive impact in the lives of teenage girls. Developing the AI models and emergency support features were major accomplishments, as they contribute to a more responsive and empowering user experience. Additionally, learning new skills in backend development and applying them to a meaningful project was a rewarding achievement.

What we learned

This project taught me the importance of understanding user needs, especially when working with sensitive topics like healthcare and safety. I gained a deeper understanding of full-stack development, including how to balance front-end design with backend functionality. I also learned how to work with AI tools to make a user-friendly, interactive platform.

The future of SafeNest includes:

  1. Expanding AI Capabilities: Further developing the existing AI models and adding new ones to enhance support.
  2. Mobile App Development: Creating a mobile version for easier accessibility.
  3. Community Support Features: Adding forums or safe social spaces for peer support.
  4. Multi-Language Support: Enabling the platform to reach more users by supporting multiple languages.

SafeNest aims to grow into a comprehensive platform that empowers teenage girls with both the resources and support they need to navigate their personal journeys safely and confidently.
