Project Story
Inspiration π‘
SafeNav was conceived from our collective commitment to improving urban safety. Living in bustling cities, the necessity for a tool prioritizing personal security during daily commutes fueled our motivation. We envisioned an innovative solution utilizing data to empower users with the safest routes.
What it Does π
SafeNav is a safety-centric route planner. It assesses crime rates, day/night conditions, and traffic data to suggest the safest routes. Users input coordinates and departure times for personalized suggestions. The prototype integrates live location sharing, offering real-time insights into surroundings. πΊοΈπ
How We Built It ποΈ
Our strategy prioritized simplicity and security. Employing ReactJS, Leaflet or Google Maps API, and Axios for data fetching, we developed an intuitive frontend. Meticulously designing the algorithm for route calculation and time-based safety evaluation, we streamlined the architecture by eliminating the need for a backend server, enhancing efficiency. π οΈπ»
Challenges We Ran Into π€
The journey presented challenges, from designing an effective safety algorithm to integrating real-time data. Balancing functionality with simplicity demanded iterative refinement. However, each challenge became a stepping stone for growth, compelling us to deliver a refined and robust prototype. π§ββοΈπ§
Accomplishments We're Proud Of π
Our pride lies in creating a user-friendly tool addressing real-world safety concerns. The successful integration of time-based safety evaluations and live location sharing is a testament to our team's dedication and resilience. π€π
What We Learned π
The project enriched our understanding of ReactJS, data analysis, and real-time data integration. Skills in algorithm development were honed, balancing user experience with functionality. Collaboration and adaptability became integral, fostering a dynamic learning environment. ππ
What's Next for SafeNav π
SafeNav aims to refine its algorithm further, incorporating user feedback for continuous improvement. Exploring additional features and potential partnerships will enhance user safety and solidify SafeNav's position as a trusted navigator in urban landscapes, emphasizing the role of open street maps and open source technologies. πβ¨
