Inspiration

In today's fast-paced world, home has always been the one place where we find solace and comfort. It was during a visit to my grandmother's old apartment, watching her navigate the intricacies of her home, that the need for SafeHome became strikingly clear. Every corner, every unsecured rug, and every unlit stairwell became a potential hazard in my eyes. The realization that countless others could be facing similar challenges and that a fall or injury at home is often just one misplaced step away, led to the birth of SafeHome.

What it does

SafeHome is a comprehensive Home Safety Assessment Tool designed to mitigate risks within the household. Through tailored surveys and intelligent analytics, users can evaluate the safety level of every room in their house. By understanding the demographic details, specific health concerns, and home layout, SafeHome provides actionable insights and recommendations to ensure maximum safety, especially for the elderly and those with mobility impairments.

How we built it

SafeHome was developed using JavaScript and React. We use Supabase to keep track of users and organizations.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge that we ran into was using new frameworks, as it was a first for all of us. Throughout the 24 hours, there were many times when we weren't sure what to do and did not understand how things worked, but eventually, we learned and overcame these issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coming up with a logical design and a comprehensive survey system for our project that is also simple and accessible for our target customer in under 24 hours.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we understood the importance of building with the end-user in mind and continuously improving based on our friends' feedback. We also learned to plan out our projects and implement a project from scratch, working as a team and playing to each other's strengths and perspectives to tackle challenges and enhance SafeHome's offerings.

What's next for SafeHome

Ideas for the next chapters of SafeHome are abundant. We are planning to launch a mobile version to allow users to assess their homes on the go, as well as enable real-time alerts and safety checks through IoT. Another feature we are planning to add is a Chrome extension that enables house buyers to see how safe an on-sale house is for the elderly demographic because who doesn't love a Chrome extension? Another direction we are planning to take is expanding to other demographics. While initially focused on the elderly, we aim to tailor safety recommendations for families with young children and other specific needs.
