What We Do
We provide a platform for people in affected areas of a natural disaster to evacuate without needing to worry about being able to find a place to say. SafeHome creates a network between those in need and a community of people willing to provide temporary lodging, bringing about the ease of not needing to worry about finding and paying for a hotel.
How We Do It
Hosts volunteer vacant spaces for however long they desire, up to 30 days. Empty rooms, beds, couches, floor space, and any other area that the host deems livable can provide people in need with a home away from home.
How we built it
Used Elixir, a fairly new language, and Phoenix framework.
Challenges we ran into
Public domain issues. Incorporating Google distance matrix API. Deploying to AWS server.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
User Interface is very nice and inviting. Website is made with modular, neat code.
What's next for SafeHome
Improving reservation confirmation. Improving security. Better user experience, like filtering and sorting listings. Prevent abuse, validation processes.
