What's next for SafeHaven — home security on Fire TV

Inspiration

We noticed that many home security systems are relegated to mobile apps that are easy to ignore. We wanted to utilize the large screen of the Amazon Fire TV to create a persistent visual dashboard for home safety. Our goal was to bridge the gap between complex security data and intuitive living room experiences.

What it does

SafeHaven acts as a centralized home security hub that runs natively on Amazon Fire TV. It uses generative AI to process security events and provide natural language summaries of household activity. Users can view real-time status updates and trigger protocols through the Fire TV-based interface.

How we built it

We implemented the backend using Go to ensure high performance and low latency for event processing. We utilized aws-lambda to handle logic and amazon-bedrock for intelligent event analysis. The strands-agents-sdk allowed us to orchestrate complex security workflows that interact with the home ecosystem seamlessly.

Challenges we ran into

We initially struggled with synchronizing state between the Go-based backend and the Fire TV UI. Mapping the asynchronous nature of the strands-agents-sdk to a reactive interface required careful architectural decisions. We also had to optimize our Lambda functions to ensure the security dashboard remained responsive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a seamless user experience that feels native to the Amazon Fire TV ecosystem. Successfully integrating amazon-bedrock to transform raw sensor data into actionable insights was a major win. Our Go-based architecture proved to be incredibly robust under handling concurrent security events.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the nuances of building for the Fire TV environment using Go. We also gained deep insight into how to structure agents using the strands-agents-sdk for automation tasks. The experience highlighted the importance of low-latency processing in security-critical home applications.

What's next for SafeHaven

We plan to integrate more live camera feeds directly into the Fire TV interface. We also want to expand the AI capabilities to allow for predictive security based on historical patterns. Future updates will focus on deepening the integration with broader smart home devices.
