Every day, countless lives are lost to preventable overdoses, and many harm reduction tools remain fragmented or inaccessible when people need them most. SafeDose was created to change that by offering a single, intuitive app that combines emergency support, Narcan access, and a compassionate community space to help users stay safe and never feel alone. The app includes a Narcan Locator that identifies nearby pharmacies and pickup sites, a Check-In Timer that alerts trusted contacts if the user becomes unresponsive, an Emergency Guide with clear step-by-step instructions, an Interactive Timeline that explores the history of harm reduction, and a Messages of Hope wall where users share uplifting testimonials and recovery stories. Built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React, SafeDose integrates live Narcan data and features a minimal, mobile-friendly design in soft pastel tones. One major challenge was ensuring the app worked seamlessly offline and on mobile devices without relying on app store deployment or complex backend systems. Despite these hurdles, the team is proud to have built a functional prototype that merges safety, education, and emotional connection in one accessible platform. In creating SafeDose, we learned how to design with empathy, prioritize calm and inclusive visuals, and balance technical reliability with emotional impact. Moving forward, we plan to add a real-time crisis text line, an AI-guided overdose response assistant, enhanced data accuracy for the Narcan Locator, and secure anonymous sharing through community partnerships with harm reduction organizations.
