Inspiration
Popular food delivery platforms are great for finding tasty meals quickly, but they completely hide actual kitchen hygiene risks. High star ratings only reflect taste or delivery speed, not sanitation. We wanted to build a tool that helps users look behind the kitchen doors and make healthier, safer food choices before hitting the checkout button.
What it does
SafeBite AI is an intelligent public health companion platform. It monitors and predicts food safety risks by gathering real-time data. It translates complex signals like local hygiene compliance scores, historical health indicators, and customer food poisoning complaints into an easy-to-understand Explainable AI Safety Score. Users also get a 7-day risk trend forecast for any selected restaurant.
How we built it
The web application is built and hosted using Replit. The frontend features clear visual elements, including interactive risk distribution charts and public health monitoring dashboards to display data seamlessly. The backend core handles simulated municipal health safety APIs, customer complaint trackers, and predictive trend metrics to generate live safety alerts.
Challenges we faced
The biggest challenge was translating scattered raw numbers and customer text reports into a single, reliable safety percentage. We solved this by structuring the logic to separate predictable metrics like delivery speed from critical health risks like sanitation history, ensuring that the final score reflects true food cleanliness.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully developed an intuitive dashboard that makes public health transparency actionable for everyday users. We are proud of creating a functional concept that connects consumer actions directly with safety awareness, moving the focus of food ordering from just flavor to true physical well-being.
What we learned
We learned a lot about dashboard layouts and how to format data cleanly so that it looks professional. We also realized how important explainable scores are—users don't just want a number; they want to know exactly why a venue is flagged as safe or risky.
What's next for SafeBite AI
We plan to upgrade SafeBite AI from simulated data to live production integrations. Our main goal is to connect the application directly with official national food inspection systems (like FSSAI) and local municipal complaint databases to provide genuine, real-time safety coverage for every neighborhood.
