Inspiration
Needing a option for seeing ingredients on food menus that could cause an allergic reaction.
What it does
It's a website that allows you to see allergens on restaurant menus.
How we built it
We're hosting the backend on firebase and the frontend is in react. The data for the local restaurant menus was acquired by webscraping in python due to lack of access to conventional API's. We're using a API to access ingredients based off of dish name
Challenges we ran into
Conventional menu API's were difficult to accesses we had to create our own menu database of restaurants in the area. API for accessing restaurant ingredients is still occasionally inaccurate
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Frontend styling, accessibility of website UI, comprehensive webscraping for our database.
What we learned
It's really hard to access API's for food delivery services evidently Also domain names take a while to migrate. We used a .tech domain from domain.com but the transfer process is taking forever. safeats.tech is the domain
What's next for Safeats
Further developments will expand the service to more cities.
