🧠 Inspiration
Public safety often depends on fast, clear communication—but not everyone knows how or where to report emergencies, and many feel overwhelmed during crises. I was inspired to create SafeAssist to bridge this gap with an accessible, AI-powered chatbot that guides users through emergency reporting and provides real-time safety tips—instantly and without the need for an account. 🛠️ How I Built It
I built SafeAssist using Builder.io, focusing on accessibility, simplicity, and realistic simulation:
The chatbot interface is powered by static JSON responses and MockAPI.io, allowing safe, fast demo interactions.
I designed a multi-step incident reporting form with confirmation logic, auto-suggestions, and fake submission feedback.
The resource center provides curated safety tips with AI-style summaries and predictive search.
A demo dashboard simulates live reports, giving judges and users a sense of real-time functionality.
All features work without login, and a “Demo Mode” toggle enables full exploration with fictitious data.
🔍 What I Learned
How to simulate realistic AI behavior using static data and builder logic.
How to design with both end users and hackathon judges in mind, balancing usability with “wow” features.
How accessibility features like dark mode, multi-language support, and text-to-speech can make an app more inclusive and impactful.
🚧 Challenges I Faced
Keeping the app fast and functional while simulating AI without an actual backend.
Creating a visually polished and mobile-friendly chatbot experience inside a no-code environment.
Making sure users (and judges) could explore all features easily without needing to sign up or log in.
🚀 Final Thoughts
SafeAssist demonstrates how no-code tools can be used to simulate powerful public safety tools quickly and creatively. Even without real-time AI, the experience is authentic, intuitive, and impactful. The app is designed to grow—ready to connect with real services, languages, and data sources in future iterations.
