Inspiration The idea for SafeAlertHer came from my desire to improve safety for women. I wanted to create something that could help women feel more secure and reach out for help quickly when needed.
What It Does SafeAlertHer helps users alert their emergency contacts in unsafe situations:
User Registration: Users sign up, create profiles, and add trusted contacts. Adding Contacts: Users can add family or friends to be notified in an emergency. Alert Activation: With one tap, users can send an alert that notifies contacts by email and message. Location Sharing: SafeAlertHer sends the user’s location to contacts so they know where to go. AI Messaging: The system adds a short, auto-generated message to explain the situation. How I Built It
Backend & User Management: I used Django for handling sign-ups, profiles, and contacts. Alert System: I built an alert system that sends messages and location data. AI Messaging: I added AI to create short messages for emergencies. Location Tracking: I included location sharing to help contacts know where to find the user. Challenges I Faced Getting real-time location updates and reliable messaging was challenging, especially without certain tools. I tried different methods to make notifications work smoothly.I implemented this project in just one day, which led to many bugs along the way. I relied on Stack Overflow and other community resources to quickly solve these issues and keep the project on track.
Accomplishments I’m proud of creating a tool that makes it easier for women to feel safe. The alert system with location and AI messaging is a key part of this accomplishment.
What I Learned This project taught me about real-time alerts, location tracking, and emergency messaging. I learned how technology can support safety.
What’s Next for SafeAlertHer
Better Notifications: I plan to improve notifications for faster alerts. AI Safety Tips: I want to add features that warn users about unsafe areas. More Contact Options: I aim to include options for reaching local emergency services. Custom Alerts: I want users to be able to set different alert types for different needs.
