Today, I’m excited to introduce SafeTravel, the app our team built in just four hours during the hackathon — a tool designed to help people explore the world with confidence and peace of mind. Our mission with SafeTravel was simple: make travel safer, smarter, and more accessible for everyone. In a world where information moves quickly but safety updates don’t always reach travelers in time, we wanted to close that gap. SafeTravel brings real-time safety insights directly to the user’s fingertips. With SafeTravel, users can instantly see crime levels, safety ratings, and risk categories for any neighborhood they’re visiting. Instead of relying on outdated blogs or vague reviews, travelers get clear, visual, map-based data that helps them make informed decisions — whether they’re choosing a hotel, planning a night out, or navigating a new city. During the hackathon, we focused on building a clean and intuitive interface: • A sidebar dashboard with essential safety filters • A dynamic map that highlights safe and high-risk zones • And a smart alert feature that notifies users when they’re near potentially unsafe areas Looking ahead, we have exciting plans for SafeTravel: • Build out the rest of the pages using the Lovable design framework for a smooth, visually engaging user experience • Integrate services like Grubhub and Lyft, so travelers can safely order food or get rides without leaving the app • And eventually, provide 24/7, real-time safety coverage for the entire world, making SafeTravel a global companion for every journey Even under the pressure of a four-hour time limit, our team demonstrated how fast collaboration and creativity can produce something meaningful. SafeTravel is more than an app — it’s a step toward a world where traveling can be exciting and safe.
