Inspiration : A project that uses object detection utilizing OpenCV and Yolo in order to help those that are impaired in some sort of way

What it does : Assists users that may be visually impaired to help cross the street thru OpenCV detecting crosswalks, obstructions, and the pedestrian walk signal.

How we built it : We built this project by using Flask (backend), React (frontend), OpenCV and Ultralytics (AI framework), as well as Yolo (model)

Challenges we ran into : The task was something unfamiliar to all of us, so we split up the tasks accordingly and created a team planner at the start. We also struggled using Github's repository due to the file size being abnormally large due to us having to train the AI model with datasets we created.

Accomplishments that we're proud of : Training an AI model to enhance our knowledge, as well as empowering visually impaired individuals to live independently.

What we learned : More about full stack development and a lot of information regarding with training AI models and object detection.

What's next for Safe Step : Pushing the web app into hopefully a mobile application that is free for all users on Android, and iOS.
