Inspiration

In this time of the pandemic, most of us are just in our own homes. Not all people can cope with this "new normal" state and can't go much outside. We have realized that the emotional factor in life is essential. In the Philippines, mental health issues are not taken seriously. In this project, we created a web app that people could vent out and seek advice from trusted volunteers and have a meaningful talk. With that in line, we have come up with Safe Space, which also means a place or environment where a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not expose to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm.

What it does

This project is a user-friendly web- application for everyone who wants to talk about life without criticism and those who seek a place where everyone can vent out and have some meaningful talk. Three services are in the web-app: talk, mood booster, and inspire. These three categories consist of essential functions on helping a person cope with their struggles in life. The talk service paired up users with a volunteer to talk about and have advice. The mood booster shows memes that you could relate to and have fun with it. Lastly, the inspire section lets users post inspirational mess

How we built it

We collaborated using Repl.it in building the web-app interface using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript. While the talk service is made from React.

Challenges we ran into

A lot of challenges come up in creating this project. The first one is the time zone and it is difficult to adjust and make our time compatible. The internet speed and connectivity because there are a lot of times where the internet service providers are having issues. Last is brainstorming on what we would like to build that can help others and at the same time have fun building it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our group consists of beginner programmers, and being in this hackathon itself is an accomplishment for us to have created an idea and built it within a short amount of time.

What we learned

We learned a lot in this hackathon, explored different technologies out there, and had a great time learning with the workshops, not just about programming but also about various things from the mini-events in Treehacks.

What's next for Safe Space

A community that helps for better improvement of Mental Health awareness and advocates Mental Health issues.
