Inspiration
The need for employee mental health support in the modern workplace is growing, and traditional solutions often fall short. During my professional journey I have seen many colleagues going through mental stress at work, going on burn-outs, struggling with work and to see that I was inspired to create a more proactive and accessible solution which can support employees with their well-being challenges.
What it does
SafeSpace is an Agentforce Service Agent designed to provide personalized mental health support to employees. It is available through Slack to employees where while working through out the day they can go to Safe Space and ask for support, or just vent their stress. It uses natural language processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis to understand employee concerns and provide relevant resources and guidance.
How we built it
I integrated AgentForce Service Agent with Slack so that user can just experience as they are talking to their buddy over slack. It uses a topic and actions (flow) also to log the engagement summary anonymously once the conversation is concluded. I also used data libraries to feed in the documentation to categories the conversation as per company policy.
Challenges we ran into
- The main challenge was balancing the act of asking open-ended & setting a sense of listening vs giving suggestion by the agentForce.
- One more challenge was/is to keep the agentForce within companies policies while providing the suggestions.
- Ensuring the agent's ability to adapt to individual employee needs while maintaining a consistent tone was also a hurdle.
- Balancing empathy and accuracy in AI-driven support interactions was a challenge as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Ability of SafeSpace to provide a space for employee to manage their stress, to vent about their issues freely without worrying about their privacy or being judged is really helpful for employee. Its availability right within employee's workspace also gives an experience of talking to their buddy. For leadership - while companies spend so much getting feedbacks from employees to make their workspace better, having anonymised logs and summary of the conversation can really help solve the deeper problems along by making all the available tools reachable to the employees at one single place and can actually make the workspace better for wellbeing of their employees. Biggest accomplishment is that it is a WIN-WIN situation for everybody.
What we learned
- The importance of human-centered design in AI development cannot be overstressed.
- It is really important to fine-tune the agent to better capture nuances in employee feedback and concerns.
- It is of utmost importance to provide the personalisation touch to the agent so that it can respond accordingly based on the conversation context as well as recognize individual employees' preferences for communication style, tone, or language
- Collaborative efforts between mental health professionals and technologists would be very useful for creating effective solutions and make such solutions very impactful.
What's next for Safe Space
- Integration of Safe Space with existing wellness programs, expanding its reach across the organization.
- Train Safe Space with company specific policies, making the suggestions more aligned with what organization has to offer.
- Capture new matrices from the conversation to help leadership understand the workplace issues at deeper level.
- Prevent duplicate feedback/ engagement of same topic again and again by same user so that the matrices are non-skewed and provides an unbiased picture.
- Setup check-ins with the employees to check if they are doing better or still struggling with the same problems.
