Inspiration
Personal safety apps are slow and hidden on phones. We wanted a faster, physical way to trigger intelligent emergency awareness.
What it does
A wearable button sends GPS data to AI, generates real-time safety analysis, and displays alerts on a live map with voice notifications.
How we built it
Raspberry Pi Pico + LTE/GNSS, Flask API on DigitalOcean, Gemini AI analysis, ElevenLabs voice synthesis, and a Next.js live map frontend.
Challenges we ran into
GNSS and LTE conflicts, MQTT reliability, HTTPS deployment issues, and connecting hardware, AI, and cloud services into one pipeline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A full end-to-end system: hardware → AI analysis → cloud backend → live visualization → real-time voice alerts.
What we learned
Hardware reliability, cloud deployment, secure APIs, real-time data pipelines, and integrating AI into real-world systems
What's next for Safe Signal
Smaller wearable hardware, automated emergency contacts, predictive safety heatmaps, and scalable global deployment.
