Inspiration
For decades, the corporate world has waived the rights of millions, creating obscure, binding agreements that invade both privacy and financial control - with nothing standing in their way. We decided to come together to allow people to agree on their own terms.
What it does
Safe Sign functions as a Google extension that automatically scans the terms and conditions of the website the user points to when prompted. Powered by Google Gemini, a comprehensive, yet concise analysis of the legal terms - including recommendations and gray areas - is returned to the client.
How we built it
The back-end of Safe Sign uses the Flask framework on Python, configuring the setup of our Google Gemini Agent to receive information from the front-end to scan and output meaningful data. The front-end was designed in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to properly configure the Chrome extension and provide maximum stability.
Challenges we ran into
We were both unfamiliar with development in browser extensions and advanced front-end design in languages such as JavaScript. Configuring the extension to properly load and format the data thrown by the back-end was exceedingly difficult, as it required handling many kinds of unexpected website data fetched by our back-end catcher.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create a functional, built-in browser extension combining our previous experience and learned experience during these 36 hours. We successfully integrated new front-end techniques that seamlessly integrated with our Google Gemini Agent in the back-end, creating easy access to legal information.
What we learned
While we learned technical concepts such as browser extension development and Gemini-powered webhooks, we also developed our ability to combine inspirational ideas, different levels of experience, and fuse our passion for creation as a development team. During our time in project development, we came across unexpected and unfamiliar obstacles that we overcame through our newfound experience.
What's next for Safe Sign
Safe Sign has the potential to append any supplementary features, including advanced analyses on privacy policy and tracking company sale data. In future implementations, we plan to involve the user in the decision-making process, allowing them to query the Gemini Agent for follow-up questions and advice.
