Inspiration

Have you ever gotten those weird feelings about that creepy house on a block where it made you want to walk across the street? We all strongly felt the need to create something that people would instead benefit from in the broadest way possible. We came up with Safe Route.

What it does

Safe-Route determines the safety of your walking path in New York City by the minute. By using years of crime data and machine learning, safe-route gives each block along your journey a safety rating, that is then aggregated to give a total safety score for your path so that you may know whether to walk ahead in peace or walk away and potentially live another day.

How we built it

We used StdLib to utilize the Twilio function as well as GCP for their maps API, we hosted the webserver with AWS and wrote the backend using Django.

Challenges we ran into

We had problems with gathering information from the database with the ec2

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It works.
