Inspiration
We were inspired by the dark fact that every day women are not safe. They gets abducted from their way to home or office or their daily destinations. We wanted to help them by alerting their trusted people if in-case anything wrong happen to her.
What it does
Girls in our platform can select their trusted contacts as emergency contact which later will be used to alert if anything goes wrong to her in her daily route that she marked and saved on the platform.
How I built it
We used flutter for android frontend and dart for functionality. As database we've used Firebase. We have a SMS alerting system and for that we used Twilio.
Challenges I ran into
It was hard for me to check if the user's current location is within or near the path she has marked as her safe route because flutter is pretty new right now and there was no any plugin to do so. But I found there was a native plugin for android and it has a class PolyUtil which has a member method isLocationOnPolyUtil(). I made a bridge plugin to use native PolyUtil method and published it on pub.dev as a package google_map_polyutil.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Even though we stuck in many points while developing this application, we somehow figured out the way out to those problems and complete our project in time.
What I learned
I learned how to deal with time pressure when there is really limited time in hands.
What's next for Safe Reach
We are thinking about creating a mesh network so that our app can work even when there is not network with p2p connection with other users nearby.
