Inspiration

I created Safe Internet 4 Me as a website to assist other students who wish to pursue a career in cybersecurity or just want to learn how to stay safe on the internet!

Safe Internet 4 Me came from my own experiences as a cybersecurity student and as a passion project. Whether it came from looking for scholarships, cybersecurity study reviews, and capture the flag competitions, I always struggled with finding relevant and updated materials in one place.

Considering that educational material can be glum and sometimes uninteresting, I took matters into my own hands by creating cybersecurity content. Mixing both Minecraft and my love for cybersecurity, I began a journey of making silly Minecraft videos (see video above) and posted them on my website, Safe Internet 4 Me.

What it does

At Safe Internet 4 Me, I have provided a couple of cybersecurity resources from multiple resources that have personally helped me.

Alongside my website, I use Minecraft to represent cybersecurity concepts. In the above example, I use a villager to represent data and use various situations to demonstrate examples of the CIA triad (confidentiality, integrity, and availability).

I believe that breaking down these concepts into fun and short YouTube Short will provide others with the ability to understand the importance of cybersecurity.

How we built it

With the help of Canva, I created a website as a prototype for the resources I wanted to include on my actual website. The prototype and the current inspiration are found at:

Challenges we ran into

With very limited website development skills, I am still trying my best to grasp markdown to make Safe Internet 4 Me look and feel cohesive. Safe Internet 4 Me is still being migrated over so it's still under construction and might look a little silly (but silly is fun sometimes).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Buying my domain and linking it to my website is one of my proudest accomplishments. I never knew how that worked, but I quite literally own a piece of the internet!!

What we learned

Honestly, before the creation of my website, I was outright terrified of GitHub as I didn't understand what a repository was or how even to host a website. I now know how to use markdown to create text, add images, links, etc. to a website!

I want to upload more! Stay tuned to see the construction of this website! 👷‍♀️
