Inspiration
As debaters, we come across rude and demeaning male competitors who disregard our facts and choose to discredit our case based on us being women. When discussing these problems, many brush off the behaviors of our competitors and say it is normal. The patriarchy has made men overpowering and overlooking women normal; thus, society contains women in a societal construct and prevents them from reaching their full potential.
What it does
To help fix this problem, we created Safe Haven, our website, to empower and educate women on gender inequality. Our mission is to provide women with the statistics, articles, and words from influential women to learn about and how to fight gender inequality. For example, we have a "Creators" page that highlights different inspiring women and all their successes.
How we built it
We built our webpage on Glitch using HTMP, JavaScript, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into multiple challenges including how to have buttons on our page and how to create different tabs. We resolved both of these problems by simply exploring HTML and JavaScript and searching for information about both languages. We ultimately figured out how to add buttons and different tabs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the different tabs at the top of our page. We wanted to make a slightly complex webpage by adding the tabs so we could fit more content and it worked. By learning how to add different tabs, we gained more knowledge and felt satisfied with our work.
What we learned
Through our project, we learned how to create a fully functioning website that allows users to access external links and internal tabs.
What's next for Safe Haven
In the future, we want to constantly update information such as articles and women's rights events so anyone who views the site in the future can receive up-to-date information. We want to include more pages on how to fight gender inequality so we can expand our webpage into an advocacy site rather than simply an information site. Also, we want to make our features more interactive and have more buttons/external links for our users.
