Inspiration
We came up with this idea because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges the community is facing with being sanitary while getting necessities.
What it does
Safe Foods provides a voluntary service of delivering sanitized groceries for the elderly and disabled people through the methods of social distancing and non-contact delivery.
How we built it
We used HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to build the web page and add interactive properties. We also used Cloud Firestore from Google Firebase to store and retrieve the data collected from forms on our page.
Challenges we ran into
Our main problems were with displaying retrieved data onto the web page. As of now, we have orders being displayed on the console, but not on the actual page.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that despite being beginners in all of the technologies used, we were able to create and host a clean website for our local community.
What we learned
We learned that web designing can be a very long process and it definitely needs a lot of patience. We also learned a lot about using Cloud Firestore to store and retrieve data from forms.
What's next for Safe Foods
We will continue to work on displaying orders stored in the Cloud Firestore for registered volunteers to choose from. In addition, we will work on making the site look more professional and advertise Safe Foods to the rest of the local community to make sure our elders are protected during this pandemic.
