This project was inspired by both new and veteran drivers who may not realize they are driving unsafely. Our solution to this problem is to detect and notify the driver when they are driving in an unsafe manner.
We utilize an accelerometer to read the G-forces on the vehicle in real-time, and compare those readings against safety thresholds derived from real-world testing. When a unsafe acceleration, deceleration, or turn is detected, a small speaker makes a noise and an LED flashes to remind the driver to drive less aggressively. Also included in our Safe Driving Assistant is an ambient noise detector used to identify unsafe noise levels in the vehicle.
Our intended user base is concerned parents who just put their teens on the road, and potentially insurance companies who want to evaluate their clients driving habits.
The key feature we are most proud of is being able to accurately detect and deter unsafe accelerations and turns.
