Inspiration

The situation on the Italian nautical market includes a total of around 195,000 companies, with 880,000 employees and a total added value of 46 billion euros. The tourism sector of large yachts is a fundamental component of the sector and involves many collateral economic activities. In particular, the charter of large yachts has been continuously growing in recent years and represents a widespread use of the boat and an innovative and exclusive holiday experience at sea. The boating of large yachting triggers technological innovation, cross-sectoral collaboration and is a long chain closely linked to manufacturing production, capable of generating a multiplier of income and employment. Coronavirus has created major inconveniences for all sectors, including tourism. And one of the most difficult environments to manage are those most limited in the space where the virus can spread more easily. And the yacht is one of them. This however can be a completely safe place with a sanitation system, crew control and travel planned and defined with safety protocols both on board and in the ports that the boat touches.

What it does

Thanks to the definition of a standard to manage boat charter, use at sea and on the dock, disembarkation and embarkation in ports: this will make it possible to facilitate movement and tourism in a safe way. In the construction phase, since 30% of the world's boats are built above 30 meters in Tuscany, it is possible to insert standards for the sanitation of environments and systems to map and alert the presence and distance of people in the use of the boat. The yacht is an object that can facilitate the development of the virus if a person is infected as it is a confined space but at the same time it is a space that can isolate itself easily: if you thus create a protocol with which you ensure that whoever mounts on the yacht is healthy, the possibility of spread of the virus is completely canceled. This will also allow you to use the yacht safely in a short time, thus avoiding limiting losses in tourism and business. The goal is therefore to create a protocol with which a standard can be defined for

  • crew check before, during and after the trip
  • behavior procedure on board but above all on the ground for the crew
  • temperature control, serological system, buffer before mounting on board the yacht
  • docking port control thanks to protocols and technologies that verify contact

The Sacy protocol (SAfe Charter Yacht) will allow you to move safely (safe yacht - safe harbor). Our company, Navigo, will be able to take care of inserting the Sacy procedure into the world of charter (yacht chartering safely and moving to safe ports with cleaning with sanitization systems of environments in the refit phase and between a charter and the other) but this can also be used in the construction phase of the yacht where sanitization systems for the environment can be installed. The goal is to make the Sacy protocol as widespread as possible so as to make yacht travel as safe as possible. The protocol represents a health data monitoring system capable of connecting with the various on-board and personal devices of boats and crews. The heart of the system is connected with sensors and devices to collect and provide information on the safety levels around the yacht. Thanks to continuous data monitoring, the yacht appears as a safe island for enjoying the sea and the coast.

How I built it

Thanks to the different professional skills that make up the staff of Navigo, we were able to immediately identify the need created by the crisis situation caused by the coronavirus and having an in-depth knowledge of the sector we immediately developed a solution such as the SACY project.

Challenges I ran into

The challenge for the success of the project is to involve as many subjects as possible such as ports and yachts so as to make the protocol proposed with this project as widespread as possible.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

NAVIGO is the largest network of nautical companies in Italy, and one of the most important in Europe. Born in 2007 as one of Tuscany’s first service centers for yachting, NAVIGO is a benchmark and a point of reference for the industry. A deep understanding of the industry and a team of flexible and competent partners and employees have allowed NAVIGO to flourish into a point of reference for companies and individuals in the industry and into a paragon for the industry in other regions of Italy. On behalf of the Region of Tuscany, NAVIGO coordinates the network of Tuscan nautical centers through RETE PENTA and organizes YARE (Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience), one of the most important international business events in the yachting industry. It also manages ISYL Foundation, the training School for the future Captains and yachting industry experts. Over 350 industry companies are associated with RETE PENTA and around 150 are part of Navigo, including major shipyards and suppliers in the area, yacht managers, ground and quay service companies, ports, and major industry associations. 2013 saw the launch of NAVIGO SARDEGNA, a sister company to NAVIGO and a conglomerate of organisations in the service and concierge industry. NAVIGO is a partner of the ITALIAN NATIONAL TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY CLUSTER 2020. It participates at the WG MARE table, building technological roadmaps for the CLUSTER related to PNR, MUIR, and European sector programs.

What I learned

A project can only be successful if shared by as many subjects as possible and this is also the goal of this hackaton, which regardless of the result that our project will achieve remains a beautiful experience that helps anyone create contacts with many subjects from all over Europe and not only.

What's next for prova

The next step will be to involve all those interested in the development of the project so as to make the SACY protocol operational and to spread it throughout Europe.

N.B. the video attached to this proposal indicates the context in which the protocol will be implemented
