Inspiration

Planning a trip often requires switching between multiple apps for destinations, transportation, recommendations, and travel guidance. We wanted to simplify this experience by creating a single AI-powered platform that helps travelers plan smarter, faster, and more efficiently. SafarAI was born from the vision of making travel assistance as simple as having a conversation.

What it does

SafarAI is an AI-powered travel companion that helps users discover destinations, generate personalized itineraries, explore railway information, and receive intelligent travel recommendations. The platform combines trip planning, destination discovery, and real-time travel assistance into one seamless experience.

How we built it

We built SafarAI as a modern React single-page application using Vite for fast development and performance. The frontend is structured using reusable React components and React Router for navigation, while Tailwind CSS was used to create a responsive and user-friendly interface.

For backend services, we leveraged Supabase for authentication, database management, and data storage. User trips and travel information are managed through PostgreSQL tables exposed via Supabase services.

To power intelligent travel assistance, we integrated the Groq API, enabling fast AI-driven conversations, itinerary generation, destination recommendations, and travel guidance. Additional libraries such as Framer Motion, React Markdown, and Google reCAPTCHA were used to enhance user experience, content rendering, and security.

The application is deployed using Vercel and managed through GitHub for version control and collaboration.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was integrating AI-powered recommendations with multiple travel-related features while maintaining a simple user experience. We also faced challenges in designing intuitive workflows, managing data efficiently, and ensuring that AI-generated suggestions remained relevant and useful for travelers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a unified travel platform that combines itinerary generation, destination exploration, railway assistance, and AI-powered travel guidance. We are especially proud of building a smooth conversational experience that makes travel planning easier and more personalized.

What we learned

Through developing SafarAI, we gained valuable experience in full-stack web development, AI integration, cloud technologies, user-centered design, and scalable application architecture. We also learned how to build products that solve real-world problems through intelligent automation.

What's next for SafarAI

Our future roadmap includes real-time train tracking, hotel and activity recommendations, multilingual support, predictive travel insights, collaborative trip planning, and deeper personalization using AI. Our goal is to transform SafarAI into a complete intelligent travel ecosystem that assists users throughout every stage of their journey.
