Inspiration

We were inspired to build Sabre Voice after we noticed that, despite the prevalence of AI assistants, there is not currently a virtual travel assistant application.

What it does

Sabre Voice is a virtual assistant for Google devices. It collects a few pieces of information from users (such as the theme of their desired vacation and their budget) and builds a personalized travel experience for them. It also allows users to share their plans (via Twilio) with friends in order to book a vacation together.

How we built it

We designed the AI interactions using the Google API.AI platform. The API calls and interactions are written in JavaScript and run in Node.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge we ran into was getting our development environment set up so that changes on our local machines were reflected on the Google Cloud. This setup took a few hours to finally get working. Also, this was our first time building an app involving AI. It was a major challenge to design the workflow of the AI and integrate it with or JavaScript code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud that we were able to build a fully functional AI in 24 hours. We're also proud that we were able to work through all the challenges we encountered.

What we learned

We learned how to use API.AI, how to effectively use Sabre APIs, and how to set up a development environment for the Google Cloud.

What's next for Sabre Voice

We would like to continue developing Sabre Voice. At the moment, Sabre Voice can design a travel experience, but it isn't able to actually book and pay for travel.
