CONFIRMATION: We are an officially registered team for Melbourne Hack 2021 Kyle Herbertson Jayden Liddelow
Chosen stream: Finance We aim to save people money through the use of our extension. We also want those using the app to have a smooth experience shopping for products they want, and save them time in the process.
Inspiration
We noticed a lot of products trying to save users money were focused on coupons and sales. We also noticed a distinct lack of products that would search the internet for cheaper prices on the same item, so you could rest with peace of mind knowing you'd got the best price. This is where Sabre comes in.
What it does
Sabre is a global shopping list, covering all products in one place. It lets you pick these products and as you shop, searches the internet for the same product being listed elsewhere, and price compares. Saving you both time researching, and money!
How we built it
We built it using predominantly JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
There were a few challenges we faced, the first one being a lack of time with regards to the Hackathon. We also struggled to get browser compatible HTML parsing done, ultimately this was done through a JS script.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing up the product on time was a big achievement. Developing a chrome extension that has all the core functionality looked somewhat impossible, but it looks like something that we wanted to produce. The product is scalable and well-designed in our opinion anyway which was also a goal of ours.
What we learned
We learned about the unique challenges presented through Chrome Extension development, we also learned how to rapidly pivot a solution into something that is completely different from what was intended. Things sometimes don't go to plan.
